The CLAS Writing Academy is a hands-on, workshop series designed to equip students with the essential academic skills, analytical tools, and strategies needed to tackle college-level writing across any major. Whether you are drafting a history paper, a lab reflection, or a social science critique, this academy prepares you to write with clarity, authority, and confidence.
What Skills Will You Build?
Instead of lectures, each session is focused on actionable skill preparation. Over the course of the program, you will learn how to:
- Decode Assignment Prompts: Learn to dissect your assignments and identify exactly what your professors are asking for.
- Critical Analysis: Move past summary and learn how to make persuasive, evidence-based arguments that answer the "So what?"
- Integrate Sources: Join academic conversations by seamlessly framing, quoting, and synthesizing research without dropping context.
- Build Powerful Arguments: Move beyond rigid high-school essay formulas and create flexible, logically structured paragraphs that fit any discipline.
- Revise with Purpose: Gain concrete self-editing techniques to evaluate and polish your own work before submitting it for a grade.
Signing up for this workshop series will enroll you in all sessions, which will take place during Weeks 2-6 of Summer Session B.
