Our Tutoring Mission
At CLAS, learning is our middle name:
we help students understand course concepts;
we guide students in the learning process;
we encourage students to become independent thinkers and lifelong learners.

History
In 1992, two distinct programs—the UCSB Tutorial Center and the Center for Academic Skills Enrichment—merged to form Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS). Yet, while it had become one department, it wasn’t until 2006 that the collective of instructional tutorial services and academic skills development that made up CLAS moved under one roof: the third floor oceanside of the brand-new Student Resource Building (SRB). Today, the very same floor is where CLAS calls home, and the nearly 10,000 UCSB students who visit us here call it home, too. CLAS was, is, and always will be a vibrant and ever-evolving community of learning that belongs to everyone.
