CLAS will be undergoing construction from Monday, July 22, through the middle of Fall Quarter.
During this time, several drop-in services will be available and relocated to alternate rooms, and the CLAS Study Lounge and reservable study rooms will be unavailable due to the impact of the construction.
What is the purpose of this project?
The CLAS construction project was approved by the SRB Governance Board to improve student flow and enhance security for university property, ultimately allowing our study areas to remain unlocked and open for student use until building close. This includes:
- construction of five fully enclosed classroom and office spaces that will provide private work, study, and DSP proctored exam areas with minimal distractions;
- installation of carpeting in new work spaces, hallways, and our two largest drop-in rooms that will mitigate noise transference;
- installation of card access doorways that will separate student study areas from staff offices and provide security for staff and university property; and
- permanently affixing our barn door in the open position to keep the Study Lounge accessible for as long as the SRB is open.
What work will the project include?
The project includes construction of five fully enclosed work spaces (both group and individual), installation of four security doorways, and installation of carpeting.
What will be the impact on tutoring services?
The project will not impact the availability of in-person services, but some will be relocated temporarily as the final stages of the project are completed:
- Math & Physics Drop-In will be located in the First Floor Conference Room (SRB 1103)
- Writing Drop-In will be located in SRB 3231
- Language Drop-In will be located in SRB 3280
Please view the Drop-In schedule pages for more information.
What other impacts should we expect?
Other than some inevitable construction sounds, the relocation of drop-in services listed above, and the temporary impact on available study areas, not much! Fall services will continue to operate, and by November 2024 CLAS will be providing students with more access to open study areas and more opportunity to reserve individual study spaces!
