CLAS will be undergoing construction from Monday, July 22, through the start of Fall Quarter. During this time, all CLAS study areas (excluding Study Rooms where drop-in services take place) will be unavailable due to the impact of the construction.

What is the purpose of this project?

The CLAS construction project was approved by the SRB Governance Board to improve student flow and enhance security for university property, ultimately allowing our study areas to remain unlocked and open for student use until building close. (Previously, CLAS study areas had to be locked after the close of final tutoring services as a result of several security incidents.) The project is also creating additional enclosed rooms that will provide more individual tutoring spaces, additional private study spaces available by reservation, and additional space for DSP proctored exams. Finally, the project will improve acoustics in CLAS study areas, reducing distractions from noise interference. The final product of this project will be increased accessibility of open study areas in the SRB as well as increased individual study space available by reservation.

What work will the project include?

The project includes construction of five fully enclosed work spaces (both group and individual), installation of four security doorways, and installation of carpeting.

What will be the impact on tutoring services?

The project will not impact the availability of in-person services. Access to the Math & Physics Study Room (3263) will be unavailable, so drop-in services will be relocated to SRB 3278 for the duration of the project.

What other impacts should we expect?

Other than some inevitable construction sounds, the relocation of Math & Physics drop-in services, and the temporary impact on available study areas, not much! Summer services will continue to operate, and by Fall 2024 CLAS will be providing students with more access to open study areas and more opportunity to reserve individual study spaces!
